ISLAMABAD: After criticising the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for awarding a Senate ticket to former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s sister earlier, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday awarded the same to Seemi Ezdi, sister of disqualified senior PTI leader Jahangir Tareen.

As per the details, at least 11 PTI women, including Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nargis Jabeen, Nida Rehman, Rukhsana Bhatti, and Sara Ahmed had applied for the ticket; however, it was awarded to Tareen’s sister after the approval of PTI chief Imran Khan.

The said seat had fallen vacant after Supreme Court (SC) disqualified PML-N’s Sadia Abbasi for holding dual nationality.

Poll on the vacant Senate seat is due on November 15.

It merits a mention here that it is not the first time the ruling PTI, which boasts raising its voice against “dynastic politics”, has awarded a ticket to disqualified Tareen’s family member.

Earlier this year, his son, Ali Tareen, was awarded a ticket to contest by-polls after Jahangir had been disqualified by the apex court.
