SCBA election to be held on Oct 31

LAHORE: The annual election of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the term of 2018-19 will be held on Wednesday, October 31.

A total of 3,047 voters will cast their votes to elect a 22-member body. The numbers of registered votes at the Lahore Registry are 1291, while the number stands at 504 in Karachi, 484 in Islamabad, 280 in Peshawar, 196 in Quetta, 89 in Bahawalpur and 203 in Multan.

The polling stations have been set up in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Islamabad and other cities.

The SCBA body consists of a president, four vice-presidents including one from each province, a secretary, an additional secretary, a finance secretary and 14 members elected from throughout the country out of which at least two are to be from each province.

The slot of the president has been reserved for Balochistan this year for which two candidates are in the field including renowned lawyers Ali Ahmad Kurd and Amanullah Kanrani.

The Independent Lawyers Group (ILG) is supporting Ali Ahmad Kurd for the presidential slot while Amanullah Kanrani is backed by the Hamid Khan Group.
