KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi on Tuesday filed a reference in the accountability court against several former Land Utilization Department’s officers.
That included former secretary Ghulam Mustafa, former administrator Fazlur Rehman, former commissioner Roshan Ali Sheikh, former deputy commissioner Shoukat Hussain Jokhio, former mukhtiarkar Nadeem Qadir Khokar, former Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) land director , five former deputy directors and three former accounts officers in the matter of illegal sale of 265 acres of land situated at Deh Ghangiaro, Malir, Karachi.
According to details, the said land was allotted to KMC in the year 1960 for the purpose of the wool washing tanneries. However, the KMC officers had illegally given the land to 276 former leases in the said area for industrial purposes in connivance with private person named Muhammad Shoaib, who was arrested by NAB and various official records was retrieved from his residence on his information.
The KMC directors are accused of issuing the authorisation letter for execution of leases in the area of wool washing to allow the concerned officers to execute leases on behalf of KMC, having known that in the same area neither any allotment was issued nor any new auction was held.
Whereas KMC five former deputy directors from year 2007 onwards executed 276 lease deeds of wool washing land to private persons for industrial purposes without allotment order purporting that they were lessee by virtue of auction held by KMC in 1971-75 wherein KMC Auction department accepted only 16 plots which were allotted through auction at that time.
