PESHAWAR: A senior officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police was shot injured during a mugging incident here on Sunday.

SSP Operations Javed Iqbal while speaking to the media confirmed that Additional Inspector General (AIG) Khalid Abbas had along with his wife been targeted in a mugging incident in Pishtakhara area of the city.

The couple was mugged at gunpoint as they were on their way back home. According to the first information report (FIR), the AIG had Rs20,000 on him, whereas, his wife was carrying Rs30,000 — all of which the muggers snatched before shooting at the policeman’s foot, leaving him injured.

Earlier last week,  a KP superintendent of police (SP) had gone missing from Ramna neighbourhood in Islamabad. Although his family has expressed the fears of his abduction, Peshawar city police head has said that the SP had been on a short leave and was in the capital for personal reasons.

However, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jamilur Rehman confirmed that the police were unable to contact the SP as his number was switched off. “It would be premature to comment on his disappearance, although [we] are in constant touch with Islamabad police to know the facts,” he said.
