Pak to approach UK for Altaf Hussain’s custody in Imran Farooq case

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to approach the United Kingdom (UK) to hand over Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain in a case pertaining to the murder of Dr Imran Farooq, a former MQM leader who was found murdered near his home in North London on September 16, 2010, according to reports.

Despite a passage of eight years, London police have not able to apprehend the murderers.

A case pertaining to Farooq’s murder was registered in the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) counter-terrorism wing and an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has indicted three suspects in the case. According to the statements of the accused, Dr Farooq was murdered as he was a threat to the MQM chief.

The Ministry of Interior has sent a request for MQM founder’s custody to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the reports reveal. It is expected that the foreign office will forward the request to UK.

Along with the request, the interior ministry has also submitted the challan in the Imran Farooq murder case, the joint investigation team’s report and related documents.
