SWAT: Swat Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Fawad Khan Sunday chaired a meeting to discuss measures needed to clear Swat River from pollution.
The meeting among others was attended by assistant commissioners, town municipal officers, director fisheries, and representative of local hotels association.
Speaking on the occasion, Fawad Khan said the grave situation of pollution in Swat River was due to the disposal of waste by hotels, demands collective efforts of civil society and proper waste management.
He said that wildlife, flora and fauna of the area were facing a threat of extinction due to the disposal of waste in the river by hotels, adding the hazards had affected human health situation in Swat and its adjacent localities.
He said that soon a comprehensive survey would be conducted to assess the situation and afterward a campaign would be launched to clear Swat River from pollution.
He also urged all the stakeholders to support the efforts of district administration in this connection.
