Rs2.23b earmarked for 17 health projects in southern Punjab

MULTAN: Punjab government has earmarked Rs2.23 billion for 17 mega health projects in southern Punjab, including Nishtar Hospital Phase-II, in the current budget.

According to DPR officials, funds have been released for the ongoing health projects in Multan, DG Khan and Bahawalpur divisions while seven new projects would also be completed with the funds earmarked in the current budget.

Official sources said that Nishtar Hospital Phase-II would be started soon and Rs140 million have been fixed for land acquisition.

The latest linear accelerator machine for cancer would be installed at Nishtar Hospital while the extension of CPEIC project would be started soon and Rs150 million have been allocated for this project.

Upgradation of bone marrow and thalassaemia centres at Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur would be upgraded with Rs103 million, sources added.

Rs620 million have been fixed for the provision of the latest medical equipment at Children Hospital and upgradation of DG Khan District Headquarters Hospital.

The extension project of Tayyip Erdogan Hospital would be completed with Rs400 million. Rs20 million have been allocated for Kidney Centre Multan to ensure maximum facilities for the citizens.

Facility of hostel for the students of Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur would be constructed with funds of Rs50 million.
