Pak tent pegging team off to UAE for World Cup

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s six-member tent pegging team departed for Abu Dhabi, UAE on late Saturday to take part in the ITPF 2018 Tent Pegging World Cup, scheduled to be held there from October 29 to November 3.

“Our team will take part in four individual and as many team events of the World Cup,” Secretary Equestrian Federation of Pakistan (EFP), Amir Munawar Siddiq told APP.

Pakistan team is comprised of Nigah Hussain (captain), Fazeel Ahmad Bhatti, Irfan Mahmood, Muhammad Nasir Abbas, Abuid Javed and Rashid Ali.

A total of 12 top outfits of the world including the hosts UAE, Jordon, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Norway, Iraq, Egypt and Oman will contest in the week-long coveted event.

In January 2018, Pakistani team finished second in the in Tent Pegging World Cup qualifiers by showing a stunning performance.

Teams from Australia, Bahrain, India, Iraq, United Arab Emirates and Pakistan participated in tournament. But only Pakistan and India could make it to the ITPF World Cup.

Pakistan’s last participation in the mega event was in 2014 when they remained at number nine out of the total ten teams. But Amer said that the current Pakistan team had a decent chance to register an emphatic performance in the event due to the efficient technical levels of the riders and vigorous training they underwent in a one-month camp at Lahore.
