KP CM bans male entry in girls’ schools

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Sunday directed a complete ban on the male entry in all-girls schools across the province, adding that there will neither be male chief guests nor media coverage at all the events participated by girls.

“There should be a complete ban on the male entry in the girls’ schools and the schools should invite female members of the assembly as well as role models as chief guests to sports, annual and other different functions to the schools throughout the province,” he told KP Education Minister Ziaullah Bangash on Sunday.

He has also directed his advisor on education to ensure an exemplary educational environment in the girls’ schools throughout the province.

Mahmood Khan said that the education department should also discourage the publicity of such social and annual functions of girls schools on social media adding that the girls should be given education in true spirit making them aware of the social, culture and Islamic values throughout the province. The advisor expressed his commitment to ensure strict implementation on the chief minister’s directives for the education throughout the province.

“At every girls event, there will only be female parliamentarians or the female officers who will be called as chief guests,” Bangash told media persons, adding that “male entry into female education institutes has also been banned.”

According to media reports, officials said that different female were being uploaded to social media adding that some pictures, were later reported after having been uploaded without consent of the concerned individuals.

“This happened recently when some photos were shared on social media without the consent of those having been photographed,” a senior government official told media.

The issue was reported on local level but was later brought into the notice of concerned officials who might have pursued the ministry to impose the ban, the report said.

“We have ordered all the elementary and secondary schools, district education officers and other relevant officers to impose the ban after we received complaints from parents,” the minister said in a video statement shared with the media.

He stated that inviting males at these events was against the norms and culture of the province, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the chief minister took notice of the police raid on a house at Peshawar’s Bhana Mari. He said the inquiry should look into different angles and dimensions of the alleged violation of the police party entering a house without any lady police personnel as complained by aggrieved family members and reported by the local media.

He asked for a comprehensive report determining and fixing responsibilities for the act against law. “The police head should also look into the legal side from all dimensions and submit him a comprehensive report fixing responsibilities, the logic and rationale to conduct a raid on the house at Bhana Mari,” he directed, adding that disciplinary actions against any unlawful act on the part of Police personnel.
