MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday said that the accountability institutions are not dictated by the government and that no one is being pressurised.
While talking to the media in Multan Qureshi said, “We want the process of accountability to continue,” adding that “accountability institutions are not dictated by the government and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is aware that we are not pressuring anyone”.
Regarding the opposition’s All Parties Conference (APC), Qureshi said, “I don’t understand APC’s agenda, it seems like a programme to save themselves.”
Furthermore, the foreign minister said, “Pakistan’s problems were not created in the last 60 days, even the nation knows what this country’s issues are.”
Responding to a question, Qureshi said, “South Punjab is a need and no one can deny that. However, to make a separate South Punjab province we need opposition’s support.”
On Saturday, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that he was being “attacked from everywhere” because of the issue of the 18th Amendment of the Constitution.
The PPP co-chairman had claimed that when “they” failed in their attempts to take away the government in Sindh from the PPP, efforts were started to undo the 18th Amendment. He alleged that his friends were being arrested even though “they” had a problem with him.
Speaking at a news conference, the former president said the opponents had differences with him, but they were instead of picking up his friends. Further, he had said that they have agreed to attend the APC hosted by Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
The 18th Amendment, a landmark legislation that has lent greater autonomy to the provinces and divested the president of all his executive authority, was passed unanimously by the parliament in 2010 with all major political parties on board.
