APA conference to be held in Gwadar on Monday

GWADAR: The three-day conference of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Special Committee on Creation of Asian Parliament will commence in Gwadar from Monday as international delegates arrived in Gwadar on Sunday.

The conference being hosted by the Senate of Pakistan will help project Gwadar in a different manner and bring parliamentary leadership of Asia together for promoting peace and development.

Delegates from twenty-six Asian countries including Inter-Parliamentary Union secretary general will deliberate on matters of mutual interest to Asian region in terms of political affairs, economic trade and other regional issues.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani also reached Gwadar to review the arrangements.

Meanwhile, cultural welcome at Gwadar Airport surprised many international delegates who arrived on Sunday to participate in the conference.

Senate Chairman and Acting President Sadiq Sanjrani received the delegations at Gwadar Airport.  The acting president was flanked by Leader of the House in the Senate Shibli Faraz, Senator Kauda Babar, Senate Secretary Amjad Pervez Malik, Balochistan Chief Secretary Dr Nazir, DGs of Gwadar Development Authority and Gawadar Port Authority, local administration and others.

The delegates were amazed to witness the rich cultural dances, games, and stalls while they were having a marine drive. They specially praised the friendliness and sociability of the people of Gwadar.

The Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) head expressed his pleasure to see the socio-economic development of Gwadar and its cultural features.

Earlier, Senate Secretary Amjad Pervez Malik and APA Deputy Secretary General Dr Khurram Ali exchanged views on arrangements with regard to APA committee meetings. The senate secretary informed the deputy secretary general that arrangements had been finalised and all the departments at federal, provincial and local levels were working in unison to make this conference a success.

The APA deputy secretary general expressed his satisfaction on the arrangements and praised the role of senate on the forum of APA.

Later in the evening, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani welcomed the delegates attending APA during a reception organised at Damizar, PNS Akram. The reception was organised by Pakistan Navy.
