LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday said that he feels as if the country is moving towards progress for the first time, calling it a “positive change which needed to be sustained”.

Addressing a ceremony at Data Darbar in Lahore, Justice Saqib Nisar said that the nation is actively donating to the dam fund which is admirable.

“The construction of dams is essential. We have to build dams on an immediate basis as they are very crucial for us,” he added.

CJP Nisar further stated that “we have to love this country for which our forefathers rendered matchless sacrifices”.

“I hope to Allah Almighty that the country will move towards progress soon,” he said. “For the first time it feels like the country is taking off towards progress and we will soon reach the destination of prosperity,” Justice Nisar added.

I feel as now Pakistan is heading forward and if collective efforts will be made with sincerity, the country will soon achieve the goal of development,” he hoped.

The CJP was given cheques by several devotees for the dam fund during his visit.

The Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Fund was initiated by CJP Nisar earlier this year. After assuming office, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that his own fund would be merged with that of the CJP and urged Pakistanis to contribute to the fund.

The fundraising for the dam has crossed 7 billion so far.

The collection for dams’ construction recorded a slight surge after PM Khan on Sep 7 addressed the nation, appealing them –especially overseas Pakistanis – to help Pakistan avert looming water crisis and donate for construction of dams.

Until Sep 26, the country-wise data showed that within Pakistan an amount of Rs 3,928,982,836 (Rs3.97 billion) was collected through bank branches, interbank transfers and mobile phone SMS service. In next three weeks, the fund had witnessed a significantly good amount of collection.

Now it has reached Rs 7,076,484,675 (approx Rs 7 billion).

CJP ON SUFISM:

On the occasion of 975th annual Urs of Hazrat Ali bin Usman Al-Hajveri, the chief justice said that Sufi scholars had always emphasised on following Islam in its true spirit.

He said, “Islam gives a message to serve people and to create facilities for them.”

CJP congratulated the organisers for making good arrangements for the ceremony.
