DERA GHAZI KHAN: A woman gave birth to a child on hospital grounds after the medical staff allegedly refused to admit her in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Teaching Hospital.
According to a report in the local media, the woman’s mother-in-law, a resident of Shehzad Colony, said that she brought her pregnant daughter-in-law, Sajida, to the hospital after she went into labour. However, the hospital staff and doctors, instead of admitting her, asked her to bring an admission slip and Sajida’s ultrasound report.
Sajida’s mother-in-law informed that she laid Sajida on the hospital grounds because she was in a lot of pain, where she gave birth to a baby surrounded by people.
Upon hearing the woman’s screams, doctors transferred both the child and mother to the labour room. The woman’s relatives staged a protest demonstration against the hospital staff’s negligence and demanded the Punjab health secretary to look into the matter and punish those responsible.
However, Teaching Hospital Medical Superintendent Gul Hassan Shah denied the allegations and said that the woman gave birth to the baby before getting an admission slip. He added she was provided treatment as soon as she reached the health facility and that both the baby and mother were in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Tahir Khursheed had ordered an inquiry into the incident. He said that strict action will be taken against those involved in negligence.
