KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar directed Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Saturday to remove illegal encroachments in the city within 15 days as he appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) in connection with illegal encroachments and occupation of land case.

A three-judge bench headed by the CJP, comprising Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard the case as the chairmen of relevant departments were present in court to record their statements.

During the proceedings, the mayor told the court that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had taken action against illegal encroachments and demolished marriage halls. He complained of not having proper authority in the city.

The top judge directed the mayor to remove illegal encroachments in Karachi in 15 days: “You should not rely on anyone else as the court has given you the authority.”

Meanwhile, Justice Nisar also sought the proper plan from additional inspector general in this regard.
