Pakistan committed to Chemical Weapons Convention, UN told

Pakistan called for effectively addressing the threat of chemical and biological weapons use by non-state actors while reaffirming its commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention at the United Nations.

The stance was communicated by Pakistan’s representative Jehanzeb Khan during a debate on weapons of mass destruction at the General Assembly’s Disarmament Committee in New York.

Khan maintained that Pakistan condemns the use of chemical weapons by “anyone and anywhere”. He further said that “those responsible for such deplorable acts must be identified and held accountable”.

At the conference, the representative remarked that Pakistan has also supported the Russian proposal for the elaboration of an international convention for the suppression of acts and chemical and biological terrorism.
