Pakistan Army extends best wishes on UN Day

Pakistan Armed Forces have extended its best wishes to the United Nation on the 73rd UN Day which is being observed on Wednesday, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Pakistan has contributed over 200,000 troops to 46 UN Missions in 28 countries. Around 156 peacekeepers from Pakistan have also sacrificed their lives for global peace.

“Pakistan Armed Forces extend best wishes to UN on its 73rd UN Day. Pakistan to date has contributed over 200000 troops in 46 UN Missions in 28 countries. We also pay tribute to our 156 peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives for global peace,” said the statement.

Pakistan has a long history with UN peacekeeping, having been one of the largest contributors of troops and police for decades.

Pakistani women and men currently serve in seven UN operations, with the vast majority of them deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Darfur region of Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR).

As of February 2018, Pakistan is the fifth largest contributor of uniformed personnel to United Nations peacekeeping, with more than 6,000 men and women serving under the UN flag.
