Ghazal singer Gulbahar Bano sent back to brother’s house after medical examination

BAHAWALPUR: Legendary ghazal singer Gulbahar Bano who was recovered from her brother’s house on Tuesday night and shifted to a hospital has now been discharged and sent back to her brother’s house.

Earlier, the police raided Bano’s brother’s residence in the Khanqah Sharif area of Bahawalpur after they received reports of the singer being held against her will and took Bano into custody.

However, Bano’s brother said the singer was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2009 and hence was staying in his house because the doctors advised her not to live alone. The authorities were also shown her medical reports.

Authorities, however, shifted the singer to a hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment. After her medical assessment was done and the doctors confirmed her mental health, the police returned Bano to her brother’s house.

Born in 1955 in Bahawalpur, Bano rose to fame in the 70’s and the 80’s. She is well-known for her ghazals which include Chahat Mein Kia Dunya Dari, Hamain Jahan Mey, Kya Kya Yeh Rang and Kabhi Kabhi Toh.
