MIRPUR: The fast-deteriorating situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) following the recent renewed wave of extreme violence and state terrorism unleashed against innocent Kashmiris in the occupied valley have even pained the Indian civil society.

“We are deeply pained at the recent escalation of violence in Kashmir and at the loss of innocent civilians’ lives,” top Indian civil society stalwarts representing various segments including Wajahat Habibullah, Yashwant Sinha, Kapil Kak, Bharat Bhushan, Sushobha Barve said in a joint statement on Tuesday according to a report received here Tuesday from across the Line of Control (LoC).

They said that the “local body elections” could have been planned with sensitive political forethought and as part of a consultative process for more inclusive and extensive participation.

“The issue of Jammu and Kashmir is so sensitive that it is a sin to use it for petty political gains. The situation is deteriorating by the day in that state and the Indian government remains unconcerned. This policy will only lead to disaster,” they concluded.
