Customs seeks invalidation of illegally imported vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Customs officials have challenged the validity of vehicles imported for the royal family of Qatar by the previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

According to the details, the 330 vehicles apparently imported for the Qatari King’s family of were cleared illegally exempting from payable taxes.

The customs officials requested the court to nullify the decision of Customs special Judge as the exemption issued by the foreign office was illegal and unlawful.

Some 280 vehicles imported in the name of Qatar Embassy are still in Pakistan. Customs officials while conducting raids in search of such vehicles have recovered 23 but authorities said that 257 vehicles allegedly are yet to be recovered which have been mysteriously hidden somewhere in Pakistan.

The Special Judge Customs had earlier granted bail to the accused whereas the customs officials had sought his physical remand for recovery of the remaining vehicles.

The appeal has been filed by the Federation of Pakistan through Customs intelligence director.
