LAHORE: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has approached former Olympian Tauqeer Dar to coach the national hockey team, a month after Dutchman Roelant Oltmans resigned from the post.

Dar, who was part of winning Pakistan side in Summer Olympics 1984, told media that he has been approached by team manager Hassan Sardar to assume the position of head coach.

“I have old ties with Hassan Sardar so I cannot refuse him,” Dar said, adding that he, however, will not take a decision in haste.

The former Olympian said that he will talk to Sardar after the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy. “I will try to persuade him not to appoint me manager of the team,” he said.

“But if he does not agree then I would accept the position of the coach.”

Further, PHF will formally announce Dar’s appointment as the head coach of the team once talks are finalised, the reports stated.

Pakistan lost to India but won their fixture against South Korea in the Champions Trophy, which is being held in Muscat, Oman from October 18-28.
