Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the Sindh chief secretary to submit a report on the legislation for protection of housewives and devise a temporary rehabilitation program for their benefit.
The SHC added that if there was no such reformative legislation, the relevant authorities were expected to initiate a process for proper legislation and also appoint two lawyers as amici curiae (friends of court).
The court issued these orders while hearing the plea of a woman seeking custody of her four children after her husband divorced her.
Headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, the bench issued a copy of the order to Sindh advocate general and fixed the matter for October 31.
