LAHORE: Tanzeem-e-Usatza Pakistan on Sunday resolved that the government should review the education policy as no country can progress without much-needed and timely reforms, adding that the teachers serving on contract-basis in various public institutes should be regularised.
The resolution was passed during the one-day Educational Conference under the banner of Tanzeem-e-Usatza Pakistan which was held in Aiwan-e-Iqbal Lahore. The conference was attended by a large number of school teachers, lecturers of colleges and universities and educational experts. Samia Raheel Qazi, Professor Dr Mian Muhammad Akram, Professor Rizwanul Haq, Professor Shafique Ahmad, Dr Khalid Rehman, Dr Hussain Paracha, Professor Zahid Shaikh and Professor Rao Jaleel were the key speakers.
Professor Zahid Shaikh said that our new teachers are being exploited in the name of contract due to current educational policy while there were thousands of posts were vacant in educational institutes.
“Contract employees in the educational institutes should be regularised. The co-education system should be abolished from the institutes. To monitoring the women institutes, the government should appoint women.”
The participants demanded that the matter of promotions should be resolved on a priority basis as many of the educational institutions were working without their heads.
The speakers, in their address, condemned the act of handcuffing senior educationists Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Muhammad Akram and Dr Anwar Chaudhar by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during their appearance in court.
Samia Raheel Qazi said that the survival of our society lies in the implementation of an Islamic educational system.
Professor Rao Jaleel said that Islam is based on the rich culture of morality and education such that knowledge is declared as the home ground for humanity. “An equal education system should be formed on the basis of nationhood which follows the national interests of the country,” he said.
While criticising the current educational system in Pakistan, Jaleel said that the slogan of ‘education for all’ has actually become ‘education for sale’.
Dr Khalid said that teachers had been playing their role to make the country peaceful and prosperous. He said that there is a need to change the entire educational system and for this, teachers should also work hard day and night. While criticising the previous educational policies, Khalid said that our policies were made by the foreign advisors and that became the reason of decline.
He said that teachers must be given respect which is important while strengthening the educational system.
It was also stressed that appropriate additions should be made in the curriculum to empower women. Moreover, it was agreed upon that the official status of Urdu language should be reinstated.
