Cab driver accused of harassment released on bail in Karachi

KARACHI: A city court in Karachi accepted the bail of the private cab driver who allegedly harassed a female passenger. The court ordered him to submit a Rs10,000 surety bond in return.

A girl on Saturday jumped out of a moving vehicle of a ride-hailing service near Karachi’s FTC flyover on Shahrah-e-Faisal in fear of being harassed by the driver.

According to media reports, the court was also told that the driver is a retired Navy personnel.

The girl maintained that the driver took the turn in a wrong direction that which cautioned her since she was being taken to some other place than Saddar- for which she had booked the ride.

“I decided to jump out of the moving car instead of giving a chance to someone to lay his hands on my honour,” the girl stated to the media in wake of the incident. She also received minor injuries, however, remained safe.

She further said that during the ride, the driver was continuously staring at her through the back-view mirror in the car.

Meanwhile, the said driver was taken hold of by passers-by and handed over to police. He was shifted to Saddar police station.

The girl said that she had submitted an application with the police, but she is not pursuing the matter in order to avoid escalation.
