At least 60 people were killed and many others injured when a train ran into a crowd of worshippers celebrating Dussehra in Indian Punjab’s Joda Phatak, close to the city of Amritsar on Friday.
“Crowd of worshippers were watching the public burning of Hindu lord Ravana’s effigy at around 7 pm,” according to police.
Many bystanders were standing on the train tracks as they shoot videos of the effigy burning on their mobile phones when the train hit them. Authorities have immediately rushed to the scene of the collision.
