Electric supply restored in parts of Karachi after major breakdown: KE

KARACHI: The power supply in various parts of Karachi was restored on Saturday after transmission line of the national grid tripped leading to a major power breakdown in the city.

On its official Twitter handle, K-Electric announced: “Supply resumes in various parts of the city whereas restoration work in other areas is underway. Supply to the city from the National Grid has also been restored.”

Giving the reason for the outage, the authority further wrote: “Power in the city was affected following sudden tripping in the transmission line of National Grid that created a rollover effect. K-Electric’s plants landed safely in “Island Mode” which has enabled swift progress in restoration.”

Earlier in the day, a major power outage hit various areas of the metropolis.

K-electric told media that power supply within the city is affected following the breakdown of the transmission line. The sudden disruption in supply has had a rollover impact on local circuits.

The spokesperson further said that restoration efforts are underway and apologised for the inconvenience caused to the residents during this time.

Large parts of the city, including Defence, Buffer Zone, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Nazimabad, New Karachi and Surjani Town, were rendered without electricity for a few hours.

Earlier, three major power outages plunged Karachi into darkness. Following which the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) took serious notice and directed K-Electric to submit a detailed report regarding the power breakdowns along with preventive and corrective steps taken by it.

According to a press release issued by NEPRA, “K-Electric is not investing to improve its transmission and distribution network as occurrences of tripping are frequent.”
