ISLAMABAD: While condemning the recent hike in gas price, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday termed it an act of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government against the common people.

“Each day has proved that the people have not taken a sigh of relief since the current regime has sworn in and the trend of increase in prices of the essential commodities have made life of the masses, especially the vulnerable segments of society, miserable,” the former information minister said in a statement issued here.

She said that the sixty days performance of the ruling party has proven beyond doubt its inability to deal with the national and public issues, claiming that they lack the capacity to take prudent decisions for the betterment of economy, trade, industry, and foreign relations.

Expressing her fear and anguish, she said further increase in the gas price would not only deprive the working class of the basic facility but will also result in the slowdown of economic activities.

“Voters have rejected government’s anti-people and anti-poor policies in the recent bye-elections which is a clear indication of distrust among the people,” she said.

Marriyum warned that people would take to the streets soon if the current state of affairs continues to become worse. She said it has unnerved the whole nation the way current regime has managed the affairs of state at foreign, domestic, economic, political and administrative levels.

‘It appears that they perhaps mastered in one art and that is lie, deceit, accusing the opponents and increasing the prices of essential commodities,’ the PML-N spokesperson criticised.

“If this is the result of the overall performance of sixty days, masses must fasten their belts in advance and get ready for the next 40 tumultuous days as we are heading fast towards the worst crisis of our history. Change has turned into a tsunami, which has left debris of lies and deceit so far,” she said.

She credited the former PM Nawaz Sharif for providing relief to the people, saying that the PML-N government, despite economic pressures, did not put the burden on the poor.

“It’s not ‘Tabdeeli’ (change), it’s ‘Tabahee’ (destruction), which has emerged in consequence,” she said.
