National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal’s claim of Pakistan having been pushed from 175th place to 116th place on Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) because of anti-grant body’s efforts has been proven false because according to the official statistics, Pakistan had been ranked 116 and 117 in the past two years.

In 2017, Pakistan was ranked 117 whereas, in 2016, it was ranked 116.

On June 8, 2018, the NAB chairman had said that Transparency International (TI) had increased Pakistan’s rank in CPI from 175 to 116 which is a great achievement for Pakistan due to NAB efforts. “This is because of effective anti-corruption strategy of NAB which has started yielding positive dividends. Similarly, PILDAT has indicated that 42 per cent people have confidence in NAB as compared to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and police,” he had said.
