Two more malnourished children die in Thar

MITHI: Two more children died of malnutrition here on Thursday at Civil Hospital, Mithi in Thar region.

According to local media reports, two girls including 5-year-old Malookan, and six-month infant Husna died at the hospital.

The recent deaths have taken the death count of children due to malnutrition and other diseases in Sindh’s drought-stricken district of Tharparkar to 29 in this month alone whereas, the annual death count has reached 587.

Provincial Minister for Health Dr Azra Pechuho who visited the area to overview the situation is expected to take steps to boost the performance of the health centres in the district.

She has summoned a meeting of the health department officers today in this regard.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has said that he would visit Tharparkar to monitor the situation in the drought-hit region himself.

Moreover, the CJP asked also the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) if there is any role the court can play in the situation.

The AGP suggested that the district and session judge of Mithi be called to brief the apex court about the current situation there.
