LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday rejected allegations hurled by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif that the anti-graft watchdog and ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PIT) have made an “unholy alliance” to target the former ruling party.
He made these remarks during his one-day visit to NAB’s Lahore Bureau.
Terming elimination of corruption as a demand of the masses, Iqbal renewed his commitment to continue indiscriminate accountability.
“The foremost priority of the NAB is to take all mega corruption cases to their logical end. NAB does not believe in revenge tactics,” Iqbal said.
Justice (r) Iqbal also suspended additional director Muhammad Rafi over handcuffing the former vice chancellor of Punjab University, Professor Mujahid Kamran.
He took strict notice of the issue and ordered to form a new investigation team to probe the issue. Iqbal also wrote a letter to IG Punjab to suspend ASI Mukhtar Ahmed.
Earlier on October 13, the Supreme Court had accepted the written apology of Director General NAB Lahore for producing former vice chancellor of Punjab University and other teachers in chains before an accountability court.
The NAB officials had produced former VC Mujahid Kamran, four former registrars and an additional registrar before the court handcuffed amid tight security.
The CJP in a suo moto hearing of the incident said that the court would not accept disrespect of a teacher.
The DG NAB accepted the mistake and begged pardon in a written apology on the orders of the court.
The DG NAB in his statement said that Prof. Mujahid Kamran and other teachers were handcuffed due to security concerns.
