  • KMC’s 47 doctors get promotion letters

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Tuesday said the work for setting up a separate track for motorcyclists alongside Shara-e-Faisal has been started which will cover the whole area from Malir Halt to the Metropole Hotel in Saddar.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment department in this connection has already started its operation against encroachments.

Talking to media representatives after laying floral on the occasion of Liaqat Ali Khan’s death anniversary, he said, “This is the first time that a separate track is being made for motorbikes alongside the main corridor of the city. This being a model project, other major corridors will also be provided with such tracks for motorbike riders.”

Mayor said that all efforts are being made to bring improvement to the city infrastructure, specially to clean the city roads.

Meanwhile, on the directive of the mayor,  the anti-encroachment department took action against encroachments from Malir Halt to Metropole Hotel and removed all encroachments in about 6 kilometre area and seized the cabins, stalls, sugarcane juice machines and other obstacles from this area and deposit it in the store.

Ten people were arrested in this action that had been carried out by the anti encroachments staff along with police and city wardens.

PROMOTION LETTERS GIVEN TO 47 DOCTORS:

Separately, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar handed over the promotion letters to 47 doctors of Karachi Medical and Dental College, of which 37 doctors belonged to the clinical department and 10 doctors to the dental department. In total, 17 doctors were promoted as professors (BS-20), 20 as associate professors (BS-19) and 10 promoted as assistant professor (BS-18).

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif ur Rehman, District Management Committee (Central) Chairman Rehan Hashmi, KMDC Principal Syed Mehmood Haider, Finance Committee Chairman Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi and others were also present on this occasion.

In his address, Wasim Akhtar said that a considerable improvement can be made possible in medical institutions in case KMC receives its outstanding dues from the government.

He said that we got all the departments were in a devastating condition which, however, now beginning to improve. The doctors too are getting their right, which is a pleasure for us, he said.

He expressed hope that induction of more staff, specially doctors’ induction in KMC-run hospitals will be allowed. Karachi mayor who is also the chairman of the governing body also inaugurated the IT Section of the KMDC on this occasion.
