Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship 2018 comes to a glorious close

KARACHI: Many milestones were surpassed at the 26th Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship 2018, bringing the competition to a momentous close as the crowds celebrated the winners and the new records achieved in the 6 age groups that were contested.

Organised by Karachi Women’s Swimming Association (KWSA) and sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Ltd. for 26 years, these competitions hone and promote the talent of female swimmers giving them the confidence to represent Pakistan at international swimming events as well.

Over the course of two days, 10 new records were created in 69 events at the swimming championship, setting challenging swim times for next year’s competitors.

The chief guest Samina Arif Alvi, wife of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Arif Alvi  graced the occasion and presented medals to the winning swimmers and teams.

She applauded KWSA for their continuous efforts to promote female’s swimming in Pakistan and Colgate-Palmolive for taking this initiative.

Age 14 and Under 100M Medley Relay: Karachi Grammar School
Age 14 and Under 50M Backstroke (Heats): Arisha Lari, Karachi American School
Age 14 and Under 100M Backstroke: Aminah Alavi, Karachi Grammar School
Age 14 and Under 100M Butterfly: Arisha Lari, Karachi American School
Age 14 and Under 200M IM: Aminah Alavi, Karachi Grammar School
Age 16 and under 100M Freestyle: Zaha Shaikh, Karachi American School
Age 16 and under 200M Freestyle: Zaha Shaikh, Karachi American School
Age 16 and under 200M IM: Zaha Shaikh, Karachi American School
Open Age 100M Medley Relay: Karachi Grammar School
Open Age 200M Freestyle: Zaha Shaikh, Karachi American School

Group Champions:

Under 8: Shanzay Bari, 18 points,  Bayview Academy
Under 10: Zyra Diwan, 15 points,  Bayview Academy
Under 12: Iman Shaikh, 18 points, Karachi Gymkhana Club
Under 14: Arisha Lari, 28 points, Karachi  School American
Under 16: Zaha Shaikh, 33 points, Karachi American School
Open Age: Zaha Shaikh, 27 points, Karachi American School

Karachi Grammar School was the overall group champion with 381.5 points. Bayview Academy followed in the runner’s up position with 211 points, and Karachi American School bagged the third position with 137 points.
