On this day in 1976, Pakistan was host to its first One Day International (ODI) match between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.
Remembering the day, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tweeted: “#OnThisDay in 1976, the first ODI was played in Pakistan as Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot hosted a game between New Zealand & Pakistan. #PAKvNZ.”

According to Cricinfo, New Zealand was the first to bat and scored 198 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in a 35-over match, while chasing the target, Pakistan managed to score 197 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 35 overs; hence, the tourists won the match by one run.
