The Punjab Auqaf Department has been asked to submit a forensic audit of the money collected in donations at the shrines, a local media house reported.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar was informed by the lawyer who appeared on behalf of the government that so far, “Rs800 million had been collected in donations at shrines this year”.
It was reported that the CJP pointed out that this money should have been spent on “providing better facilities to visitors”. The lawyer responded to this saying that “this amount was being used to pay salaries of employees and their pensions”.
Rejecting the report submitted by the Auqaf Department, he ordered the department to submit another report after ordering a forensic audit.
