Mental and psychological disorders are rising with more than 20 per cent of the population currently suffering from such problems, according to King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Psychiatry Department Chairman Aftab Asif, a local media outlet reported on Sunday.

Asif explained that mental illness is the second most common disease in the world at the moment but is projected to become the most common disease if current trends continue.

Approximately 0.25 million people attempt suicide each year, he added.

Lack of physical activity, poor sleep, drug addiction and depression are contributing to the rise of mental diseases.
