For the first time in history, overseas Pakistanis got a chance to cast their votes in the latest by-polls as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) spent around Rs95 million to arrange the online voting facility for the 85 per cent registered voters overseas.
According to a local media report, the registered Pakistani voters took a deep interest in I-voting as the turnout remained at 83.5 per cent.
A total of 6,233 votes were cast through the internet voting system – including 5,117 votes for the National Assembly and 1,116 votes for provincial assemblies. It was also reported that “each internet vote cost Rs15,241 to the national exchequer”.
