The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) on Friday welcomes the decision by President Arif Alvi to remove Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, a local media outlet reported.
“While maintaining its traditional role, we welcome and appreciate the act of self-accountability by SJC, under the patronage of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP),” read a statement released by PHCBA.
“The removal of Mr Siddiqui from chair of judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC) is due to his visible conduct of unbecoming of a judge, is in accordance with relevant law, as the speech made by him is quite clear on the subject,” the statement added.
The decision to remove Siddiqui came after the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recommended Justice Siddiqui’s removal to the president for making a controversial speech against ISI [Inter-Services Intelligence] and the judiciary before the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi on July 21, 2018.
On Friday, Siddiqui decided to challenge his disqualification.
