Smuggling bid foiled, 11 sculptures of Buddha era recovered

 

ABBOTTABAD: The Abbottabad Police on Thursday foiled a bid of artefacts smuggling by recovering 11 sculptures of Buddha era from a vehicle in the Muslimabad area.

 

According to the police, Cantonment DSP received a tip that artefacts stolen from an archaeological site would be smuggled to the Northern areas.

Acting on the information, police started searching vehicles on a check post established in the Muslimabad area. During the checking, police intercepted a suspected vehicle, GLTA 5835 and recovered 11 sculptures of the Buddha era that were being hidden in luggage loaded on the roof of the vehicle.

Police arrested the conductor of the vehicle, Akhlaq Hussain, after recovering a sculpture displaying stand from his possession. A case was registered against the arrested in Cantonment Police Station and investigation was initiated.
