NEW YORK: Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Maleeha Lodhi has said that the social and economic priorities of the incumbent government were in line with the global agenda of 2030.

Addressing a committee of the UN General Assembly, Lodhi said that the purpose of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s policies was to infuse new life into the economy.

She said that betterment in the structure of the government, accountability, tree plantation, reforms in the health and education sectors, promotion of agriculture, provision of low-cost electricity and water reservoirs were among the priorities of the new government.

Shedding light on the government’s measures regarding water resources, Lodhi said that Pakistan was aware of its water problems and needs. “Recently, we have evolved a national water policy through which work is being carried out on projects for the conservation of water on a large scale.”

“Self-reliance is the basic part of the measures while accountability and recovery of looted money are also included in the new government’s agenda,” she added.

“We firmly believe that expanding international co-operation is needed in order to recover looted money besides curtailing the flow of ill-gotten money.”
