CDA removes encroachments in F-8 Markaz’s parking, pathways

  • City managers serve notices to encroachers

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), during the anti-encroachment operation, removed the illegal construction from the parking and pathways of surrounding areas of the F-8 Markaz.

The operation has been conducted with the assistance of the district administration and the Capital Police, by using heavy machinery to remove the illegal construction and clear the footpaths, passages and parking area for the general public.

Before the operation, notices were served to illegal encroachers to remove these encroachments voluntarily. During the operation, the guard room established in a container at the southern corner, barrier, iron grill, security posts at northern corner and advertising boards were removed from parking area of the Ali Medical Centre.

While numerous planters placed at western footpath and advertising board installed on the footpath by the Islamabad Diagnostic Centre were also removed. Barbed wired erected adjacent to a private school’s building were removed and foot paths were opened for the general public.

On this occasion, parking area of the Mobilink Head Office were cleared by removing/demolishing barrier, security guard cabin at southern entrance point, barbed wire/fence along with planters, entry point at northern side, barriers, a guard post at northern side, revolving gate at the entry point, security clearance point setup, portable washroom setup and security cabin at western corner.

A shed in the parking area and iron grill in front of the parking area of OGDCL Medical Centre building were also removed. Similarly, shed erected by the PhotoPlus Shop on the public pathway was removed. Furthermore, some encroacher removed their encroachments himself voluntarily and more sheds and an illegal kitchen setup was also removed and petrol pump administration removed a portable tyre shop voluntarily.

It is pertinent to mention that the operation did not touch the chambers illegally erected by lawyers in F-8 Markaz. The representatives of the lawyers have been taken to task for defending their fellow colleagues who’ve encroached upon the football ground adjacent to the district courts by the Islamabad High Court as they have raised multiple permanent and temporary structures.

In a judgment penned down by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui where IHC judge has condemned the act and ordered that the illegal structures be removed within a month, according to the judgment. However, after the passage of the whole month no action is taken. Started by State Minister for Interior Affairs Shehryar Afridi, the operation took off with a bang after dozens of marquees and restaurants along the Kashmir Highway were razed to the ground.

After the initial hue and cry from the affectees, the orders from the Supreme Court, protests of the opposition leaders and locals, it seems that the civic authorities have halted the operation for some time. It is mainly due to this that the authorities have shifted their focus on encroachment inside the Marakiz and main markets rather than going against the bigwigs.
