Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is taking an action against its Punjab Assembly lawmakers who voted for rival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate in the October 3 Senate by-poll.
Last week, PTI had retained its Senate seat of Punjab while PML-N had secured more votes than its original strength in the house, putting a question mark on the ruling party’s united camp.
Speaking to a private media outlet on Tuesday, the information minister said that the party had taken the matter seriously and was investigating how PTI’s tally had been decreased. However, he said, that the party leadership was confident of covering the gap in the future.
“The government is not facing any problems on the provincial or federal levels for now,” he added.
To a question, Fawad said that there was a possibility that among the lawmakers who voted for PML-N were the independent ones who had voted in favour of PTI earlier.
It merits a mention here that PTI’s nominee Dr Shehzad Waseem was elected to the Senate by defeating PML-N’s Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan with a margin of 12 votes. The Senate seat had fallen vacant after Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar was appointed Punjab governor.
