LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday launched an investigation against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif for owning assets beyond his known means of income.

According to reports, officials from the bureau questioned Shehbaz over the assets he owns while his children may be summoned over the matter as well.

Salman Shehbaz is also due to appear before the anti-graft body on Wednesday as a number of transactions performed with some of his accounts are being investigated.

Moreover, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tuesday handed over to NAB a 20-year-old record of tax given by Shehbaz Sharif.

According to details, NAB had asked FBR to provide the record in the case pertaining to Ashiana Housing Society scam.

Furthermore, FBR has also forwarded details of Shehbaz’s bank accounts to the anti-corruption watchdog.

The former Punjab chief minister was arrested by NAB last week in the Ashiana Iqbal housing scheme case as he appeared to record statement in Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.

“The National Accountability Bureau Lahore has arrested former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiana housing scheme case. NAB will produce Shehbaz Sharif in an accountability court tomorrow [Saturday],” said the anti-graft body after the arrest.

According to reports,  Fawad Hasan Fawad had provided information to NAB saying that the corrupt activities he performed were done upon orders by Shehbaz Sharif, who was serving as the chief minister in Punjab. Valuable data was also recovered from Fawad’s laptop over the matter.
