ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed journalist and political scientist Dr Farrukh Saleem as its spokesperson on economy and energy issues.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry made the announcement through a tweet and said, “The Ministry of Information is pleased to announce that Dr Farrukh Saleem will be the government’s spokesperson on economy and energy issues, notification shall follow accordingly”.
The announcement came hours after sources said Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the ministers to take parliament and masses into confidence over his government’s economic plans.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had appointed Dr Saleem to formulate the terms of reference for identifying causes of the ever-increasing losses of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Farrukh Saleem is an Islamabad-based Pakistani political scientist, economist, financial analyst, journalist and a television personality, and has published articles on geopolitics, economic competition and education reforms.
Currently, he is the executive director of the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) and the chairman of the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA).
