LAHORE: Pakistan Army on Tuesday inaugurated the second international Physical Agility and Combat Efficiency System (PACES) competition at Fortress Stadium in Lahore where Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa was the chief guest.
16 domestic teams from the Pakistan Army and 17 international teams from 11 countries including Bahrain, China, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom (UK) are participating in the event.
Contingents from seven countries including Egypt, Italy, Myanmar, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan are participating in the event as observers.
COAS Bajwa in his address as chief guest underscored the importance of physical fitness and the adversity faced by soldiers. He said that this competition meets the high levels of expectation faced by soldiers and tests their combat skill in modern warfare.
He also stressed the significance of multinational cooperation between countries to demonstrate combat prowess and learn from one another.
The competition is taking place at the Lahore Garrison from October 8 to 15.
