A murder case has been registered against a police team in Karachi that killed a young man in a reported encounter earlier this year, a local media outlet reported on Sunday.
The mother of the victim lodged an FIR (First Information Report) and said that her son was not involved in any crime but was beaten by police officers in public. The young man, identified as Sheeraz, received serious injuries and rather than taking him to a hospital, the policemen threw his body in a drain, she alleged.
However, DIG East Amir Farooqi denied the allegations, saying that the police were acting on a complaint and opened fire when Sheeraz tried to escape.
