Power supply to Karachi was restored to routine levels after the disruption was triggered due to a rollover effect after supply to Karachi from the National Grid was disconnected in the early hours of the morning. K-Electric currently received 650MW from the National Grid.
Earlier in a spate of unscheduled power outages, the City had suffered through another power cut in the City, making life difficult for the locals, a private media outlet reported.
K-Electric (KE) responded to the situation by Tweeting that the power outage had resulted because of the tripping caused in the Extra High Tension (EHT) line.
“Supply from National Grid to the city is off. Restoration work is underway. We will keep you posted on further updates,” KE’s official Twitter handle said.
Talking to a private TV channel, KE Spokesperson Adil Murtaza maintained that the provision of electricity from the National Grid had been completely restored and electricity provision had returned to normal in the city.
Over the course of the week, Karachiites have faced almost daily electricity outages.
On Oct 1, K-Electric tweeted about a power outage that “some parts of Karachi” experienced. During the day, they provided updates about the progress that was made in restoring power to the city.
Similarly, in a statement shared on Twitter on Oct 2, the city’s electricity supplier said that “power supply to KE from the national grid is currently restricted due to technical reasons”.
About Thursday morning’s outage, KE on Twitter said that power supply has been restored in Gulistan-e-Maymar, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Airport, Dhabeji and Gharo pumping stations of the Water Board as well as Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Sindh Assembly and Governor House.
KE added that electricity in parts of Gulshan, Federal-B area, Liaquatabad and Korangi has also been restored.
This is the third instance in the city within one week in which the prolonged power outages have caused immense disturbance to the residents.
