–More than Rs4.4bn have so far been collected in the fund
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfi Bukhari on Wednesday said that he intends to donate all his salaries to PM-CJP dam fund.
“I will donate all salaries drawn while serving on this position to the PM-CJP Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Fund,” he said.
The dam fund was started in July by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar after hearing a case related to Kalabagh dam. CJP Nisar also donated Rs1 million to the fund at the onset.
A number of public figures and government officials vowed to donate parts of their salaries to the fund.
PM Imran on September 7 lauded CJP Nisar’s efforts for the collection of funds for the construction of the reservoirs by stating that, “the chief justice has done something which should have been done by the country’s politicians.”
Earlier, PM Imran announced the merger of the prime minister’s and the chief justice’s dams funds and appealed to the nation for donations.
Likewise, last month the Supreme Court approved a change in the name of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams fund to Supreme Court and Prime Minister’s Fund for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 2 in 3 Pakistanis, 67 per cent, who are aware of the dam fund, claim they will contribute in the construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam.
As of October 2, more than Rs4.4 billion have so far been collected in the fund.
