Four back to back national swimming events from October 5

LAHORE: Pakistan Swimming Federation on Wednesday announced an ambitious programme under which four back to back national swimming events will be organised starting this month and ending in November at different parts of the country.

“PSF and Pakistan Women’s Swimming Association will be holding these events to identify new talent and to promote the game at all levels,” said, Secretary, PSF, Major (r) Majid Waseem here.

He said the prime objective of holding back to back events aims at creating the opportunity for upcoming, senior and women swimmers to learn finer points of the game and to further progress in swimming.

He said the 23rd National Boys Age Group Swimming Championship will be organised from October 5 to 7 in Peshawar. The participating categories are 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under.

Major Waseem said the 18th National Girls Age Group Swimming Championship will take place from October 13 to 14 in Islamabad and swimming events will be held in 12 under 14 and under 16 age groups.

“These events will be a step forward to motivate the youth to take up swimming as a sport,” said the PSF official.

All Pakistan MacDonald Inter-School Swimming Championship will be held from October 13 to October 14 here. “The young swimmers will display their talent in 8 and under 10 and under 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under events,” he added.

Country’s most prestigious swimming competition, the National Men’s and Women’s Open Swimming Championship will be organised from November 2-4 in Lahore.

He said the event will serve as trials for selecting outstanding swimmers for South Asian Games being held next year.

“All the Affiliated Member Units of the PSF and Pakistan Women’s Swimming Association will be competing for top honours in these mega annual events,” said the PSF official.
