Concluding mega corruption cases NAB’s top priority: chairman

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal has said that anti-graft watchdog’s top priority is to bring all mega corruption cases to a logical end.

While chairing a high-level briefing held at NAB Headquarters, Lahore, he said, “NAB is committed to make Pakistan corruption-free and we are determined to achieve our goal. Bringing stolen money back to Pakistan from abroad and returning public money to them remains NAB’s top priority.”

He briefed about mega corruption cases, investigations into Punjab’s 56 Public Limited Companies and cases against illegal housing societies and cooperative companies. The NAB chairman said that that the anti-graft body has adopted ‘Accountability for All’ policy and believes in across-the-board accountability mechanism for this purpose, it has adopted the policy of ‘Case not the Face.’ NAB has arrested 476 accused during last 11 months, authorised 216 complaint verifications (CVs), 239 inquiries, 79 investigations and 340 corruption references. Moreover, Rs2,410 million have been recovered from corrupt elements and the same has been submitted to the national exchequer. He further directed the completion of all complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations within the designated time and warned of strict action in case of non-compliance.

He said that in accordance with NAB Law, public’s life savings would be recovered from housing societies’ owners and will be followed by strict legal action against those housing societies/cooperative housing societies’ administrations who failed to deliver plots to the affectees as per their commitments.

The NAB chairman praised the performance of NAB Lahore under the supervision of Director General Shahzad Saleem.
