Raj Kapoor’s wife passes away due to cardiac arrest

Kapoor matriarch Krishna Raj Kapoor, wife of legendary actor Raj Kapoor, died on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 87.

Kapoor’s eldest son, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news saying, “My mother passed away at about 5 am today due to cardiac arrest…old age was another factor. We are deeply saddened by her demise.”

Randhir added that the last rites will be performed at Chembur crematorium.

Born Krishna Malhotra, she married Raj Kapoor in 1946 with whom she had five children: sons Randhir, Rishi and Rajeev and daughters Ritu and Rima.

Tributes have begun to pour in from all across the world as Bollywood celebrities take to social media to express their shock and grief. Anil Kapoor, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar and Rani Mukherji were all spotted arriving at the Kapoor residence to pay their final respects.
