ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday stressed the need to make the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) more active in order to fight the menace of corruption.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting in the capital to review the issues concerning the bureau and directed for the early completion of new accountability law.

Finance Minister Asad Umar, Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem, and PM’s Special Assistant on political affairs Naeemul Haq and Advisor on Establishment Shehzad Arbab were present in the meeting.

The prime minister emphasised that NAB’s actions should not create an impression of vengeance against anyone.

“Impartial and strict accountability is indispensable for reining in corrupt mafias,” he asserted and added no pressure would be accepted over the issue.

PM Khan made it overtly clear that accountability of the corrupts will continue without any discrimination.

The premier termed indiscriminate accountability inevitable to uplift Pakistan.

Farogh Naseem briefed the premier about the progress on the new accountability law. He said a draft on the new NAB law would be finalised after taking all major political parties in the loop.

A task force has been set up to reform the NAB Law in order to make it more focused and effective with essential checks and balances to avoid unnecessary harassment.

The law minister had earlier said the intention behind the forming the task force was to reform the NAB law by “making it more focused and effective to counter mega corruption.”
